Old and new

Whenever I put pencil to paper, there is nothing that inspires me more than items that have been naturally distressed over time. I love old worldy furniture and collectables, the way the paint chips off them and the way they instantly enhance the character of a room. But less is more when it comes to oldwares. A few distressed chairs is enough to take the edge off a modern table setting and a collection of antique glass jars will transform the look of a fresh bunch of flowers. When I am designing my collection, I always keep in mind the connection between old and new - to me, there is nothing more beautiful than the product of a fresh colour palette or modern shape, toned down with naturally distressed fabrics, leathers and components.

Shape shifting

Just a few pictures of today's work (it is hiding there somewhere amid all the mess!). I am kicking off drawings for my new collection and the first thing to do is to get the form right. By right, I mean perfect. Technicals first, bells and whistles second. 

Springtime

I'm starting to get the pencils moving on some new designs today. I have been collecting bits and pieces of inspiration for weeks now and thought I'd share a few with you. Here is just a handful of images, which have helped to inspire the mood for my next collection. At the moment I'm drawn to a fresh, soft colour palette, a sense of freedom and putting some old back in the new. These three things mould together nicely and can't help but remind of springtime.

Vintage Prints

When it's cold and raining outside there is nothing better than curling up with a hot cup of coffee and immersing myself in a comfortable and homely inspiration board. And what better medium to use than vintage prints? It's a throw back to days spent with my Grandma, who's house was a chaotic mix of colour, pattern and texture. Everywhere I turn lately I am delighted to see vintage prints in full swing - mismatched colours, coordinated patterns and delicate fabrics thrown together with hardy denim and leather. I am imagining how great these prints would look paired with modern shapes and lines, or peeping out from the lining of any garment that takes itself too seriously.
